5 things I learned the hard way about creating irresistible offers - Chanti Zak - Copywriter & Funnel Strategist

Estimated read time: 5 mins

Marketplace is WILD.

I posted a whack of stuff for sale over the weekend — empty barrels, garden hose, pots, a rowing machine I swore I’d use and never did.

And the DMs! I woke up to DOZENS of messages about a hydroponic tower alone. It’s too much, I can’t keep up 😅

It’s also a little exhilarating being in this many sales conversations at a time even if they are for $40 worth of irrigation material.

But here’s the thing: when you’re selling something people want at a price that feels like an easy yes, the marketplace effect is the outcome.

Sales are easy. You just create something epic that people want, promote it, have conversations about it (1-1 and at scale), answer questions, deliver, repeat.

It’s no more complicated than posting the popcorn maker your mother in law bought you that’s still in the box and seeing who wants it.

Because someone will. People love popcorn. (Me especially, here’s my secret recipe 🍿)

Selling popcorn is also wildly different than selling a KitchenBoss G320 Sous Vide. Even on marketplace, selling the latter is likely to be a little harder.

I mean what percentage of the populous even knows what a sous vide is?!

The thing is, a loooot of business owners are selling sous vides to people who want popcorn.

In today’s issue of Spill the Tea, we’re talking about, you guessed it: OFFERS (+ popcorn).

What you’ll learn in this article:

🍵💲5 offer lessons I learned the hard way

🍵💲The invisible forces behind every irresistible offer

🍵💲A quiz to help you nail down exactly what’s stopping you from making more sales

Here’s an outline for the first ever offer I wanted to create:

(the “unlock your true potential” just KILLS me now.)

This is from back in my paleo food blogging days circa 11 years ago. So cute, right?

I had no real authority, was nowhere niched enough, was not even an expert in most of the things on this list, and yet…

I truly believed I would crush it and make a killing with my $77 course. I had no email list at this point btw. I was just at the tippy top of the Dunning Kruger curve.

As clueless as I may have been, I was also on the right track.

The notebooks and journals to follow this one were filled with far better ideas, more detailed plans, realistic goals, and action steps that eventually led me to create multiple successful offers that people actually want.

5 things I learned the hard way about creating irresistible offers:

  1. How to know what ideas are worth running with (because ideas are cheap but action has a cost)

The wrong offer can set you back months. Ideas and assumptions are not enough. You need to know there’s market demand.

You wouldn’t doubt your ability to sell popcorn in a crowd, so how do you create that same confidence for your offer ideas?

Pressure test, babyyy 💍Validate before you create.
  2. What it means to “validate” an offer and why it’s so damn important

+ Validation is a form of proof that yes, people aren’t just being nice when they say “great idea!” they are actually serious enough to put their popcorn moolah where their maws are.
  3. The stuff that successful offers are made of (hint: it’s more than just a vague list of ‘what’s included’)

+ There are a lot of invisible forces at play here. A tug of war between what your audience *thinks* they need and your experience around what you *know* they need.

Case in point 🥩 nobody wants a sous vide, they want a perfectly cooked steak every single time.

  4. The foundation required for any offer to actually take off

+ The right audience, the right message, the right time, the right offer ⇐ a simple matrix that in practice would confuse even Neo.
  5. What it looks like to take a good offer and optimize it to greatness

+ Sometimes a few small tweaks is all it takes to improve your results. You don’t need to constantly reinvent the wheel, you just need to know how to repair it.

If you’re struggling with nailing down your offer, are ready to optimize, or have something new in the works (or sitting on your brain’s back burner), I have something for you.
