My mom messaged me the other day “only 8 more Saturdays until Christmas!” 

Stahhhhp, I’m over here carving pumpkins and haven’t even put my garden to bed. AKA. not ready for Santa talk. 

Even more not ready for the Instant Pot level pressure to hit those 2024 goals because there are only 64 days left in the year. 

What about you? Are you into it or do you have enough on your plate? 

Something I’ve been hearing a lot from online business owners all over the map is how freakin’ overwhelmed they are.

It’d be straight up gaslighting to blame our overwhelm solely on our lack of time management skills or lack of priorities. 

Overwhelm is a pervasive result of living in an attention economy.

Because in an economy that incentivizes polarization, hyperbolic content, and short attention spans — we are the product

I talk a lot about how we can ride the waves of collective change by: 

1/ Noting what changes are taking place. 

2/ Adjusting our strategy and approach to better align with what’s happening in the collective. 

^^But what do those adjustments look like? 

And how can we take back our attention to focus it on the things we truly value and kick the overwhelm to the curb? 

All without throwing the baby out with the bathwater and sabotaging our own revenue and businesses?

The tea: attention is CURRENCY, but so is this…

TIME is also currency. 

So is ENERGY. 

And so are RELATIONSHIPS. 

So what can you do in seasons of overwhelm to enrich yourself in ^^those particular coins? 

🪙 Focus on retention and connection. 

You don’t need to go viral. You just need to nurture and connect with the people who already trust you, and create for them.

 🪙 Be mindful of where your attention goes because that is where energy flows.

🪙 Don’t go it alone. 

My friend messaged me today that business has been slooooow. 

From my service provider perspective, I had to agree. It’s been a strange season of much lower than average leads coming in for me too, and for many others I’ve talked to. 

Who knows exactly why. Election, economy, AI, Q4, our own focus on doing the work vs. marketing the work. I’unno. But I do know it’s nice to have peers you can be honest with. 

Better yet a whole-ass supportive community that wants to see you win. 

 🪙 Have options that fit the attention economy. 

You’ve heard it before “sell them what they want so you can give them what they need” and it’s truer than ever. You need to capture attention, your business depends on it. 

So having offers that feel as close to instant gratification as possible and fall into that “easy yes” category in terms of pricing is a game changer right now. 

Once someone’s in your orbit and they trust you, offer the more nuanced high-ticket solution. 

 🪙 Have funnels in place that work when you can’t. 

Funnels that work for you when you can’t and just need space to process the overwhelm. Having an effective funnel is such a nervous system hack. 

 🪙 Focus on what you can control. 

When I’m really in the trenches with overwhelm I like to go ghost mode and just stop engaging completely with social media for even just an evening. 

I’ll bust out my journal and get reeeeal intimate with the things I can do that are in my control in any given situation. It’s not easy to surrender the rest, but it’s definitely better than the alternative.
