Most online quizzes suck because they don’t have a point.

There’s no rhyme or reason, just a jumble of questions with some haphazard outcomes that don’t really add value to anyone’s lives.

A few examples…

This is totally fine if you’re Buzzfeed and your only objective is clicks and traffic, but what if you want to use quizzes to build your email list and grow your online business?

Then you can’t be spouting off random ‘what superhero are you?’ quizzes. You need to get cozy with the 5 dub’s: who, what, where, when, and WHY?

I know, so elementary, right? But so many people skip asking these key questions altogether, and then they wonder why their quiz isn’t converting, or why their leads are unsubscribing the moment they send something.

Most quizzes don’t capture relevant data. They don’t create engaged leads AKA. there’s little to no relevant follow-up. So even if you’re raking in subscribers like fall leaves, they’re not sticking around because you don’t have your nurture sequence dialed in.

Answer these simple questions and you’ll be well on your way to creating a kick-ass quiz:

  • Who are you trying to reach with your quiz?
  • What are these people struggling with, what are they interested in, what are they wanting to learn more about?
  • Where are they going to find your quiz? Is it part of a launch that you’ll be running Facebook ads for? Is it going to live on your website’s homepage from now until it stops converting? All of this matters and requires a different approach.
  • When are you connecting with people? Are they at a point where they’re total noobs or are you trying to reach folks actively seeking to invest in a solution to whatever it is they’re experiencing?
  • And most importantly WHY should people care? Why should they take your quiz? What benefit will it give them? That’s what you need to convey.
